From distress to delight: R&S delivers bespoke Stardome polycarbonate rooflights
After recently purchasing a three-bedroom, three-storey terraced house in Wokingham, Laura was disappointed to discover that both of the property’s existing rooflights leaked during the first heavy downpour. With the rooflights beyond repair and no desire to alter the existing roof openings, the only option was to source replacement units of the same size that would provide a reliable, long-term solution.

The property’s two existing rooflights were installed within a flat roof, one positioned above the bathroom and the other over the second- and third-floor stairwell. As the replacement of the rooflights was an unplanned expense, units matching the existing dimensions were required to avoid costly structural alterations. However, closer inspection revealed that the original rooflights were not standard stock sizes, meaning bespoke replacements would be necessary.
Laura contacted Rooflights & Skylights (R&S) and discussed the property’s requirements with Sales Manager, Charlotte Weck. Drawing on extensive experience in delivering both standard and bespoke rooflight solutions for residential and commercial projects, R&S was able to offer informed advice and recommendations during the initial consultation.
Given the size and central positioning of the rooflights within the flat roof of the three-storey home, Charlotte recommended bespoke polycarbonate rooflights as a cost-effective and practical replacement solution.
The chosen specification was the Stardome polycarbonate rooflight, complete with a thermally enhanced PVC adaptor kerb and manual hinged ventilation. Designed to maximise natural light while delivering excellent thermal performance, the system provided an efficient and reliable solution tailored to the property’s requirements.
To maximise natural daylight throughout the home, the rooflight positioned above the stairwell was specified with a clear finish. In contrast, the rooflight over the bathroom was specified with a diffused finish to ensure privacy for Laura and her family, while also providing an even distribution of light across the space, even on overcast days.
Both rooflights were made to order and delivered to site, arriving on the same day the roofing contractor was scheduled to fit them.

Despite the unplanned nature of the purchase, Laura is delighted with her new bespoke rooflights – particularly the guidance, support and reassurance she received from Charlotte throughout what was initially a stressful process.
“When I moved into my property, rooflights weren’t a consideration. However, when my roof leaked just two weeks later due to the existing rooflights, they suddenly became my highest priority. Having a bespoke product made can be daunting, especially when it’s unplanned, but I quickly felt reassured thanks to Charlotte. She was knowledgeable and completely calm about something that felt overwhelming to me at the time. I’m delighted to now be the owner of bespoke rooflights and absolutely love the finished result.”
Charlotte Weck, Sales Manager, adds:
“We stock a wide range of products in a variety of sizes, but sometimes a bespoke solution is the only option. This can feel daunting for customers without prior experience of such projects, so we focus on providing clear guidance and reassurance throughout the process. I’m pleased we were able to deliver the perfect solution for Laura, working closely with her roofing contractor to ensure the rooflights were delivered and installed without delay, resulting in a finished outcome she’s truly happy with.”
